The venerable spazcore genre needs something, and that something is what An Albatross delivers: a sense of humor. Revealing a sensibility similar to that of an unmasked Locust, An Albatross’ two EPs are titled Eat Lightning, Shit Thunder and We Are the Lazer Viking. The latter is enhanced with footage from a show at a Unitarian church, in which lead singer Edward B. Gieda III begins the festivities by screaming “All right, all you motherfuckers!” The band’s 50-second (on average) blasts of keyboard-accented tantrums make the EPs feel like full-length albums. (11 songs in eight minutes!) You may not miss early Napalm Death that much, but throw in Dig Dug sound effects, an exploding meth lab, and topical GSL-friendly noise, and you’ve got yourself some good-time party vibes. An Albatross plays with Cinema Eye and Aqui at 9 p.m. on the Black Cat’s Backstage, 1811 14th St. NW. $7. (202) 667-7960. (Andrew Earles)
