There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
At first blush, John Falk seems a shill and his latest published work, Hello to All That: A Memoir of War, Zoloft, and Peace, nothing more than a paean to Pfizer. But the journalist-turned-law-school-grad is such an engaging storyteller that he’s able to turn what might otherwise have been a sales pitch into a first-rate memoir. Of course, it helps that half his material is drawn from his experiences in besieged Sarajevo, where he shipped himself off in an odd attempt to escape depression. Still, Falk’s sense of humor and strong memory flesh out his tale and make even the mundanity of his suburban youth seem fascinating. Ask Falk if he’s on any of the other little blue pills when he reads at 7 p.m. at Politics and Prose, 5015 Connecticut Ave. NW. Free. (202) 364-1919. (Mike Kanin)
