I wish your reporter had not visited Reserve 721 (“Lost in Space,” 1/14) in the midst of winter, when even the Mall can look bleak.

Reserve 721 turns into a lovely little park in the other seasons and is tended very well by the U.S. Park Service, given the agency’s budget problems.

It’s simply not true that there is no water most of the time, and submerged benches also are the exception. Three little fountains, oodles of ducks, daffodils in the spring, linden trees in full bloom, and beautiful colors in the spring—that little park is a veritable oasis in an otherwise concrete urban setting. The community enjoys it.
