Harris Elementary/Middle School

4600 Livingston Road SE

Nov. 24, 2004, 10:00 a.m.

Two special education students entered room #114. The first ignited a fire to the paper on the wall divider. They then fled the scene. A teacher aide observed the students running from room #114. The Principal and a teacher extinguished the fire. Fire Engines #6 and #30 responded to the scene. The ceiling, wall, and carpet all sustained damage in room #114. The second student confirmed that the first did ignite the fire.

Benning Elementary School

100 41st Street NE

Nov. 24, 2004, 3:04 p.m.

A parent confronted a teacher in the main office and began yelling and using profanity. The parent was standing in the teacher’s face. The parent accused the teacher of pulling her daughter’s arm. The parent then said to the teacher, “It’s not over.” The parent then walked into the hall and continued using profanity and threatening the teacher. An administrative assistant and another teacher were present at this time. The teacher later visited the sixth district police precinct. The teacher did not press charges and did not obtain the MPD officer’s badge number. A barring notice will be issued to the parent.

Corporal Punishment

Garfield Elementary School

2435 Alabama Avenue SE

Nov. 18, 2004, 2:25 p.m.

A student informed a teacher that another student was pushing students from the back. The teacher confronted the student and began pushing him and asked, “Is this the way you pushed the other students?” The student sustained a small abrasion on the upper chest. The school-assigned nurse administered first aid. Further medical attention not required. The school-assigned MPD officer was notified of the incident. The MPD officer did not complete a report. A Watkins Investigator will be assigned to the case. Administrative action is pending at this time.
