MONDAY

Have you ever glimpsed one of those hookers on 7th Street and mused, “I bet he/she is a real artist”? Or perhaps you’ve secretly been thinking that a performance by a “badass fatass jew dyke amputee” would be just the thing to shake up your usual indie-rock/punk-rock/crap-rock concertgoing routine. Well, the “Sex Workers Art Show” is here to validate your hunches. The show is a cabaret-style extravaganza of music, burlesque, poetry, and performance art by all manner of adult-industry toilers, from prostitutes to porn stars to phone-sex operators (including Nomy Lamm, the writer/musician/Jew/dyke/etc. referenced above). Visual art by the professionally naughty will also be on display. The intention of the collected work is to express “the complicated ways Sex Workers experience their jobs and their lives,” and the show also promises that it “entertains, arouses, and amazes”—but not necessarily in that order. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. on the Black Cat’s Backstage, 1811 14th St. NW. $10. (202) 667-7960. (Tricia Olszewski)
