Possession of Drugs

Roosevelt Senior High School

Jan. 25, 2005, 2 p.m.

A student was in the In-School Suspension (ISS) Room, she was cutting class. A security guard entered the ISS room and noticed a large amount of money on the table. The security guard left and informed the principal that the student was sitting in the ISS room with a lot of money. The guard stated to the principal that she was going to notify the Project Manager to see if the student could be searched. The principal replied there was no need to make the call, he was the principal and could have the student searched. The principal then spoke with the student. The student’s parents were called to ask them were they aware that the student had $710 in cash in her possession? The principal was unable to make contact with the student’s parents at the time. A message was left on the voice mail. Security searched the student’s back pack on Jan. 25, 2005, and between 2 tablets she found a small ziploc bag that appeared to contain marijuana. School-assigned Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer was notified, responded, and tested the substance, positive marijuana. MPD has retained the substance. The student’s parent responded to the school…[on] Jan. 26, 2005. The money was turned over to the parent. The student is pending suspension.

Incident No. 1111

Assault—Simple

Jan. 21, 2005, 1:20 p.m.

On January 24, 2005, A Facility Security Officer (FSO) responded to the Labor Management and Employee Relations Department (LMER) to investigate an alleged assault incident involving the Director of LMER and an investigator. The Director stated that she was walking to the Human Resources Department when the investigator grabbed her right arm from behind. The investigator used a firm grip, which prevented the Director from jerking away. The director began feeling a sharp pain in her right arm. The Director walked into [another school employee’s] office and informed him of the situation. The employee confronted the investigator and informed him that his actions were inappropriate. On Jan. 23, 2005, the Director visited Inova urgent care in Centreville, Va., and was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff in the right shoulder. MPD was notified on Jan. 25, 2005. MPD responded and completed a report.

Incident No. 1187

Corporal Punishment

Deal Junior High School

3815 Fort Drive NW

Feb. 4, 2005, 11:50 a.m.

Two students were throwing punches at each other outside of room # 222. A teacher assumed that they were fighting and intervened. [One of the students] stated that the teacher pushed him up against the lockers and began choking and yelling at him. The students stated that they were playing. Another student [also] stated that they were playing. Another student stated that the teacher assumed that the students were fighting.The victim did not sustain injury. The school-assigned MPD officer was notified. The MPD officer did not complete a report. A Watkins Investigator will be assigned to the case. Administrative action is pending.
