This four-bedroom 1923 Sears farmhouse has been expanded “in keeping with the home’s original scale and character.” One of an estimated 30 Sears homes in the Palisades, it boasts such authentic features as an original staircase and rosewood floors. But according to mail-order-architecture specialist Mary Rowse, “you can cross that house off the short list of recognizable Sears homes left” in the neighborhood. She adds, “It’s no longer the Sears Roanoke it once was.” Steps toward modernization include a granite-countered kitchen, stainless-steel GE Profile appliances, central air conditioning, 200-amp electrical service, and Internet and cable wiring: all items the original working-class Palisades settlers of the ’20s couldn’t live without.—
