WEDNESDAY
The lovely Allison Wolfe has managed to resurface unscathed from side project Hawnay Troof’s tumultuous foray into the underexplored genre of costumed spazz-rap. Arguably still costumed, Wolfe’s newest project ditches the drum machine in favor of more traditional ass-kicking licks. Partyline grows from riot grrrl roots, featuring a threesome of seasoned scenesters with more than a decade of punksperience under their vintage belts. But fear not, these ladies will never grow too old to throw down, as the title track on their 2005 release crows: “Don’t go mess with girls with glasses/Watch these girls they’ll run you down.” The bespectacled babes churn out an ear-swelling mishmash of stripped-down guitar and drums with Wolfe’s characteristic schoolyard sing-song yelps. And, of course, they squeeze in the obligatory “fuck you” to the Man. Dust off your retired sense of feminist fury when Partyline plays with Love of Diagrams at 9 p.m. on the Black Cat’s Backstage, 1811 14th St. NW. $6. (202) 667-7960.
