Recently, when someone on my favorite music-discussion list inquired about the Canadian release date of an upcoming album, my cynical pal Gary replied: “You’ll be lucky to get it at all. You Canadelians with your gay marriage and pot-cafes. Join the coalition of the willing and we’ll see about getting some good music to you.” Gary’s just jealous: The peaceable kingdom up yonder is crawling with groundbreaking musicians. And it’s wide enough that Tegan and Sara, twins born in Calgary, can now live on opposite sides of the country from each other (Vancouver and Montreal, respectively), getting together to make such unapologetically rock-y confections as 2004’s So Jealous. With the ebullient energy of Sleater-Kinney in a moon bounce, the Quin sisters make a plausible case for renouncing your citizenship. Tegan and Sara play with Communique at 9 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $15. (202) 397-7328. (Pamela Murray Winters)
