Jason Cherkis’ “Novelty Rock” (7/8) really hit the nail on the head, although I think his perspective on the New Yorker’s current demographic is a little outdated. Believe me: Keren Ann, a reasonably conventional artist who’s just off-kilter enough to inspire self-congratulation in listeners who’ve “discovered” her, is right up the alley of most of the people you’ll spot reading the New Yorker on the subway.
