WEDNESDAY

Say what you will about the nice folk at the Smithsonian Resident Associate Program, they’ve got some marketing savvy. The planning acumen—now that’s another story. Whose idea was it to hold tonight’s Cole Porter Sing-along outdoors? Before sunset? In the middle of August? Still, the marketing: The list of song titles picked to promote this semi-annual event are classics that define cool—“Night and Day,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “You’re the Top,” and “Begin the Beguine.” Sure, that last can be sung a little sultry, but you’ll notice the conspicuous absence of (wait for it, wait for it) “Too Darn Hot.” Join singer Rosa Lamoreaux and sweat to the oldies starting at 7 p.m. in Frying Pan Park, 2709 West Ox Road, Herndon. $18. (202) 357-3030. (Trey Graham)
