I’d like to comment on “Bible Belting” (9/30). First, let me say that most of the people quoted in it are personal friends with whom I sing on a regular basis.
I am also a professional church singer, and I would just like to put the word out that many of us actually do believe in the church services we lead, most importantly the sacred Communion. It’s true that church choirs are full of professionals who are simply performing a job for money, and it’s also true that there’s nothing at all wrong with that. We’re grateful for their artistry. But I wouldn’t want people to think that every choir with professionals in it is full of mercenaries.
I am blessed to be paid to do something that I love and that means so much to me, on so many levels.
