In their Web site bio, the guys of Fireball Ministry, bless their hearts, claim to be “loud, proud, dirty, visceral, and even a little bit dangerous.” In reality, the butt-rockers come off more like the cuddly bikers from Every Which Way but Loose than the long-haired loonies of The Devil’s Rejects. Maybe their inherent sweetness is the reason they got dropped from the black-metal-centered, sinister Nuclear Blast label. Hey, a band originally formed in Cincinnati can be only so evil. And the fact that the members are slated to appear on Last Call With Carson Daly later this year doesn’t help toughen their image. Still, the band’s listenable blend of ’70s hard rock, catchy ’80s metal, and ’90s stoner boogie has garnered them a good number of fans. Perhaps they can turn some ahistorical jackasses on to Blue Cheer and Montrose during their stint on Bam Margera’s Viva La Bands tour—which is sponsored by the completely unbadass Saturn car company. Fireball Ministry plays with Finch and Skindred at 8:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $25. (202) 397-7328. (David Dunlap Jr.)
