Steve Cohen (The Mail, 11/11) is only half-right about Palestine’s not being a country.
The Book of Countries (Lonely Planet, 2004) devotes two pages to each of 230 “countries” in the world. Of course, we know that Scotland, Wales, and Antarctica are not sovereign nations, but many persons think of them as countries, and they may be so described.
Microsoft’s Encarta Encyclopedia indicates that Palestine is a country.
I admit this could be a stretch, but would anyone, except for the Red Chinese leaders, deny that Tibet is a country? Try telling that to the Dalai Lama, his countrypersons, and his supporters!
