There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
A lot of bands completely shoot their creative wad when they come up with a name. How can bands with such shock-value monikers as Bathtub Shitter, Goblin Cock, and Berkowitz, Lake & Dahmer have anything left in the tank afterward? But some bands know that they need to keep something in the artistic reserves. Sound Team doesn’t feel the need for some gimmicky name—or, for that matter, an even remotely memorable name. They’re a team of guys who make sounds. What else do you need? The Austin, Texas, sextet is content to let its particular brand of melodic, innocuous alterna-rock speak for itself. “It’s Obvious What’s Happening Here” is a nice nod to Eno-styled ambient pop. On “In the Dark No One Can Hear You Sweat,” Sound Team has perfected a vanilla-custard guitar sound that is thick but goes down easy. It makes sense that these songs are available on the rather unpretentiously named Work EP. Sound Team plays with Dennis Kane at 9 p.m. on the Black Cat’s backstage, 1811 14th St. NW. $7.
