While flipping through the pages of the City Paper, I recognized one of my former students, LaKisha Epps (“Honor Roles,” 1/20). Last year, I taught Ms. Epps’ oldest daughter in Prince George’s County. My former student’s smile caused me to read the article. Ms. Epps’ daughter is everything a young girl should be. Polite, inquisitive, well-rounded, friendly, kind, compassionate, intelligent, assertive—I could go on and on. Ms. Epps is an involved parent. Good teachers require the support of good parents and vice versa.

Had Ms. Epps’ life taken another path, her oldest daughter may not be here. The world would have missed out on this natural leader. Having interacted with her daughter, I know that she will undoubtedly continue to touch the lives of others as she has touched mine. Hats off to you, Ms. Epps.
