MONDAY
Anti-war concerts can be a little dull. All the usuals show up. All the usuals say the same thing they said last year. And the press insists it’s all some sort of ’60s throwback. Worst of all, half of the protesters are in on the nostalgia act. I just wish all those Peters, Pauls, and Marys would read Joan Didion’s ’60s dispatch Slouching Towards Bethlehem—or at least skim D.C.-punk history Dance of Days. A more promising protest comes from Report Suspicious Activity, a band made up of Articles of Faith leader Vic Bondi (yowling perfectly), superproducer J. Robbins, and the brilliant drummer Darren Zentek. If the band sounds like a throwback to early-’90s hardcore, the words are meant for today: On “Revenge,” Bondi hates on blind consumerism and America’s mounting debt. With “Subtle,” he likes the phrase “red, white, and bullshit” so much it becomes a rallying cry. Come hear Bondi & Co. lead the new protest with Bomb and Fascist Fascist at 9:30 p.m. at DC9, 1940 9th St. NW. $8. (202) 483-5000. (Jason Cherkis)
