When Washington City Paper’s editors are finished congratulating themselves on Brian Beutler’s tour de force on the local real-estate boom’s dénouement, they need to make up their minds about whether the local real-estate boom is over. Note the dissonance of juxtaposing Beutler’s cover story with Beutler’s feature in the front of the paper, Seller’s Market: Celebrating the District’s Real-Estate Boom—which, if his longer story to be believed, is no longer around to be celebrated. It is noteworthy, though, that Seller’s Market gives the featured house’s list price rather than its actual selling price, which might be lower.
