History: Pizza Hut was closed on June 27, 2001, and Aug. 18, 2003. The latter closure was for five health-code violations including basic inadequate sanitation, plumbing fixtures in poor repair, and evidence of rodents inside of establishment, for which they were fined $1,000.

Health Department Says: no certified food manager on duty; garbage disposal in need of repair

Business Says: The field inspector visited Pizza Hut on a new shift manager’s second day of work, and she was not yet certified, says manager Chinazor Onianwah. “It’s an oversight on my part,” he says. But Onianwah was mystified by the broken-garbage-disposal charge, because, he says, he had bought a new disposal unit at the health department’s request a few months ago. The day-long closure cost Pizza Hut about $2,000, he says. “It’s not something we’re happy about…It’s a business loss for me. It’s painful.”
