Saturday

The organizers of the Heart and Style Conference and Fair call the event a “high-energy health and lifestyle event for African-American women.” While their health programming will focus on diabetes and heart disease, they might want to get checked out for attention-deficit disorder, too. The eight-hour event will offer the following activities: a fashion show, fitness demonstrations, makeovers, massages, book signings, food tastings, 10 inspirational speakers, more than 20 exhibitors, and educational workshops on nutrition, yoga, fitness, weight-loss strategies, and stress management. A New Orleans theme weaves through the day’s events, including a prom-dress drive for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Dresses of any size, length, and style are welcome, so round up that sequined number that you’ll never fit into again—it might be just the thing for a New Orleans fashionista trying to channel Madonna circa 1985. The fair runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wyndham, 1400 M St. NW. $25. (301) 333-1470. (Rachel Beckman)
