After the slow decline of Fugazi and brief roles in Decahedron and Ataxia, former Fugazi bassist Joe Lally is back on the frontier of independent music. He just wrapped up a short tour with producer Don Zientara, using only his bass and laptop to perform. This choice comes at a time when format is becoming more open-ended among newcomers to the stage. Groups like the Evens, French Toast, and Aquarium have obliterated the three-member status quo, and now Lally. He has made the bold last move in the trend toward downsizing: One’s company, two’s a crowd, and three is totally passé. Fewer members also means fewer scheduling constraints and no need to share creative control. Lally appears with Golden Bears and Human Bell at 8:30 p.m. at the Warehouse Next Door, 1017 7th St. NW. $8. (202) 783-3933. (Julian Goldman)
