Saturday

Everyone knows that Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, but what the hell are curds and whey? Why—and how—would you ever wash butter? Celebrate Colonial Dairy Day and help a farm wife make cheese and churn butter at the Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run, a living-history museum that uses interactive educational programs to create an understanding of agriculture and daily life on an 18th-century-Virginia working farm. If you can’t attend this Saturday, you can help salt fish on Saturday, May 6, or harvest wheat on Sunday, June 18. But let’s face it: You can never know enough about soft cheese. Get down on the farm from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Claude Moore Colonial Farm, 6310 Georgetown Pike, McLean. $3. (703) 442-7557. (Patricia Murret)
