In “Scene but Not Heard” (What Goes On, washingtoncitypaper.com, 4/21), Mark Jenkins decides that since he didn’t see much in Tokyo, there must not be much to see. He mentions Tokyo’s “handful of clubs,” which I suspect is the more appropriate description of the number of D.C. clubs when compared to the 182 in Tokyo proper and the 77 in the outlying areas. It’s a shame that Jenkins essentially bumbled around Tokyo for a few days and decided to write about it as if he were an expert! Face it: If you don’t have the lingo, you’ll never have a clue. Also, Mark, if you want “loud, experimental anarchic, anti-idoru Japanese” music, don’t look for it at the Tokyo outpost of an American strip-mall superstore.
