Had My Bloody Valentine been a movie on Cinemax instead of a band, it would have been Emmanuelle in Dublin. Lusting depravity was evident in everything the group did, from EP titles like Feed Me With Your Kiss to unabashedly naughty lyrics like “Lick, lick, lick/and suck, suck, suck/ I want it slow, slow, slow, slow.” Asobi Seksu, on the other hand, would have probably been The Red Shoe Diaries. Despite their name (which translates to “playful sex” in Japanese) the band’s latest record, Citrus, isn’t something teenage boys will be spending late-night quality time with. As far as noise-pop goes, Asobi Seksu may be a little too clean at times—but their shoegaze-influenced signal comes in clear enough, and you don’t have to lock your bedroom door to enjoy it. Asobi Seksu performs with Soft at 9 p.m. at DC9, 1940 9th St. NW. $8. (202) 483-5000. (Aaron Leitko)
