Comedian Judah Friedlander really wants you to know that he’s the World Champion. Not a world champion in a head-butt-receiving-soccer-player, testing-positive-for-steroids-cyclist, or Olympic-gold-medal-winning-hockey-player sense—but in an “I am the actual Champion…of the World!” kind of way. And he’s got a closet full of brightly colored T-shirts and trucker hats clearly inscribed with his self-proclaimed title to prove it. How he earned such a highfalutin distinction, however, remains a mystery. Perhaps it’s due to his cameo appearances in such fine feature films as American Splendor, Zoolander, and Wet Hot American Summer? More likely, it’s because of his relentless stand-up comedy schedule: Between film projects, Friedlander performs his bespectacled Everyman routine up to 20 times a week in New York City and abroad. Now that has to be some kind of world record. Challenge the champ’s claim to the crown when Friedlander performs at 8 p.m. at the D.C. Improv, 1140 Connecticut Ave. NW. $15. (202) 296-7008.
