David Rees’ politically charged and profanity-laden comic strip, Get Your War On, doesn’t seem a likely candidate for a theatrical adaptation. The red-and-white clip-art office workers that fill each panel with their musings on the Bush agenda rarely, if ever, change their pose or facial expression. It’s quite a feat, considering the absurdity that has become daily life in post-9/11 America, but it’s not a method that makes for dynamic theater. So it’s either with the blind faith of an incompetent leader or the steady hand of prudent governance—the likes of which many U.S. citizens must have forgotten by now—that the Austin, Texas–based Rude Mechanicals performance group has mounted a touring production of Kirk Lynn’s adaptation of Rees’ comic. Hopefully, it’s the latter: With the comedic artillery they have at their disposal, anything less than a bull’s-eye hit should be considered a crime punishable by life imprisonment in an undisclosed facility somewhere in Europe. Operation: Enduring Our Freedom to Bomb the Living Fuck Out of You is in the house when the performance begins at 8 p.m. & 10:30 p.m. at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, 641 D St. NW. $28–$32.
