Closed: Nov. 6

Reopened: Nov. 7

History: Tienda Latina was closed on June 21, 2006, for not having hot water. It reopened the next day.

Health Department Says: no hot water supply in a food service establishment; no certified food manager on site

Business Says: It’s a case of mistaken identity. “The address is the problem,” says José Chavez, an owner of the store. When Chavez was paid a visit by the health department on Nov. 6, he says the inspector came bearing a piece of paper calling for the inspection of 3912 Georgia Ave. NW (which is actually a vacant parcel owned by the city). “This is 5912—he had a different address,” says Chavez. The inspector cited Tienda Latina anyway. Chavez says he has just had new business cards printed with the store’s address on them and gave one to his regular inspector. “He has the exact address now,” says Chavez. “Now that everything is fixed and we have the new cards, there is no problem—everything is fine.”
