Once upon a time there were two godfathers named Brown. One was credited with inventing soul, the other go-go. Both played the 9:30 Club on the same night two years ago this week and funked the hell out. (Well, after then mayoral hopeful Vincent Orange got booed off the stage, they funked the hell out.) Then the godfather of soul died, which was sad. Then, eventually, he was buried, which was weird. But this is not the end, children. Because Chuck Brown may be seventy-freaking-three, but he is still standing, he is still funking the hell out of D.C., and, based solely on “Chuck Baby,” his 2007 single, he’s still making music that will live on in J-box perpetuity long after the godfather of go-go joins the godfather of soul at that 9:30 Club in the sky. Brown performs with Sugar Bear and Mambo Sauce at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $50. (202) 393-0930.
