Cornelius is the kind of composer who likes to include a little something for everyone. For the experimental enthusiasts, he serves up varied and complex song structures. For the recovering ravers, he works hints of drum-and-bass and house into his soundscapes. For the audience arguably nearest and dearest to his heart—the Brian Wilson worshippers—he infuses the accessibility of pop music. Cornelius, who offstage is known as Keigo Oyamada, has even charmed the juice-box demographic by appearing on the surreal kids’ show Yo Gabba Gabba! It’s this versatility and obsessive genre-blending that has launched a thousand and one comparisons to Beck. Given how effortlessly the man showcases the diversity of influences, Cornelius could also be accused of being a bit of a showoff. However, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who would hold that against him. Cornelius performs with Benevento Russo Duo at 9 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $15. (202) 393-0930.
