Have you ever been in yoga class and wished there were spotlights showcasing your downward dog? Or have you ever been busting out some new gems on the dance floor and wished there was a narrative thread to your movements? Or have you ever been on an enchanted island where anything is possible and wished you could charge people to watch you? Me neither. But Olive Dance Theatre is on a different creative plane than most of us. The Philadelphia-based dance company combines such unlikely arts as multimedia, traditional folk art, live music, and hip-hop for a night of dance theater. If you’re concerned that you might get swept up in all the symbolic gestures and blissful island time, don’t worry: There’ll be plenty of b-boyin’ to keep things grounded. The performances begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, and 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Dance Place, 3225 8th St. NE. $22. (202) 269-1600.
