Lowbrow in name and high-concept in style, Holy Fuck is big on dichotomies. Since 2004, the band has been squeezing a highly computerized sound out of comparatively low-tech instrumentation. Composing dance music that incorporates various pieces of discarded detritus (not the least interesting of which is a filmstrip pulled through a 35mm film sequencer), Holy Fuck creates organically electronic music freed from the constraints of laptops. There’s something to be said for electronic music delivered from a performer standing rigidly in an austere Kraftwerkian pose; there’s just as much to be said, though, for dance music performed by guys jumping around at their mixing boards like they’re standing on land mines. Holy Fuck delivers the latter; its innovations create an altogether animated atmosphere—one that will likely leave you yelling the band’s name in an exclamation of joy and astonishment. Holy Fuck performs with Super Furry Animals and the Fiery Furnaces at 8:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $17. (202) 393-0930.
