Starting well before the Beatles and continuing through to present day, British musicians have had a habit of putting a spin on American blues, soul, and R&B and sending it back across the pond. Kirsten Price, a United Kingdom expat who’s relocated to Brooklyn, offers the latest example of this tradition. Price doesn’t sound a thing like the Rolling Stones’ take on Muddy Waters, but her brand of music falls squarely in line with contemporary R&B (assuming that Christina Aguilera and the like count) and its omnipresent sex jams. That’s how fully Price—who, fortunately or unfortunately, shares her name with a porn star—has embraced love, American-style: When she croons, you don’t hear a touch of a British accent. Price performs with Jeff Brodnax at 8 p.m. at DC9, 1940 9th St. NW. $8. (202) 483-5000.
