Lovers of fine theater will likely find themselves initially disappointed to discover that Scott Brown’s and Anthony King’s Gutenberg! The Musical! is not about celebrated thespian Steve Guttenberg, but rather Johann Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press. Then again, if the two protagonists of this play-within-a-play—a pair of playwrights attempting to sell producers on a musical about the life and work of the “Goot” with only one “t”—had to pitch a piece about the former, they’d probably have an even harder time than they do already. After all, donning nearly 30 hats (each with the name of a different character on it), reciting the lines, and singing all of the songs to an audience full of prospective “backers” is a daunting enough task for anyone. Except, maybe, the Goot.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the District of Columbia Arts Center, 2438 18th St. NW. $18. (202) 462-7833.
