Citronelle, CityZen, Marcel’s, Charlie Palmer Steak—you could easily make a case that any one of these (and others) deserve the title of best wine list. But I give the nod to Proof in Penn Quarter for a list that possesses both diversity (more than 1,000 bottles from all over the world) and depth (the number of Chardonnays alone dwarfs many vino menus). Wine director Sebastian Zutant’s list features not only familiar labels but also many respectable unknowns for those who want to expand their palate. Such an expansive list can often be distracting, but not here. Zutant’s menu reads like a great adventure—a trip around the world in a wine glass.
