There’s something rebellious about eating in a strip-mall parking lot. It recalls the films of Richard Linklater. It recalls those Friday nights as a teen when you’re suddenly blessed with cash, the keys to your parent’s Honda, and a ton of time. It’s just you, your friends, and a pile of Styrofoam packages on the hood of your car. But if you’re a vegetarian, you likely played a small role in this ritual. You were the one staring mournfully as your friends slobbered over their double cheeseburgers and 10-piece Chicken McNuggets. But at Thanh Son Tofu in the Eden Center, vegetarians can indulge in some guilt-free curbside grubbing. The nondescript joint offers one glorious amenity: a special tofu-only carryout line. Three different flavors of perfectly fried tofu nuggets (hot pepper-lemongrass, mushroom-onion, and plain) beckon you from metal bins. Five bucks gets you a huge stack of these golden squares. And, of course, you won’t want to wait till you get home to start eating. Just pop open the container, cop a squat on the curb, and dig right in.
