Equinox’s Todd Gray has always been ahead of the curve in trying to build an honest-to-God mid-Atlantic menu, but the chef’s regional cuisine has, for years, been framed by a room stuck in another time and place—a non-descript 1980s America. Well, you can kiss that goodbye. Gray and wife/co-owner Ellen Kassoff-Gray finally ditched the dated décor at their Connecticut Avenue restaurant. It’s been replaced with simple, muted colors—whites, grays, and browns—and a billowing fabric that undulates from the ceiling in the atrium area. If you can, try to book a reservation by the new, eco-friendly fireplace that serves as the room divide. But no matter wherever you dine now at Equinox, you’ve got the best seat in the house.
