Liz Davis is the Dairy Godmother—or at least the pastry chef and owner of this Del Ray shop. Her place actually peddles eggy frozen custards, which are denser and smoother than traditional ice creams. Her menu always includes chocolate and vanilla, but loyalists closely monitor the Dairy Godmother’s online “Flavor of the Day Forecast” to find out the day’s featured custard. The choices can be both inventive and addictive: orange-chocolate shortbread, Bordeaux cherry, and pineapple upside-down cake. Davis also sells a variety of sweet-and-savory sorbets, and she even has your pooch covered: The chef sells “puppy pops” made from plain yogurt, peanut butter, and bananas.
