Drunks aren’t known for having the most sophisticated palates, but they’ve been smart enough to switch their allegiances from the jumbo slice to falafel during their weekend binges in Adams Morgan. Credit Scott and Arianne Bennett for changing the late-night food culture with their little falafel house, which focuses almost exclusively on the crispy fried balls of spiced chickpea paste. The key to the Bennetts’ success has been their condiments bar, this gleaming counter overflowing with glorious toppings: bright-magenta beets, fried eggplant and cauliflower, Turkish salad, pickled turnips, red cabbage, and many more. Just as delicious: the double-cooked fries with Dutch mayo, which should pretty much guarantee that you’ll hit your daily recommended dose of finger-lickin’ grease.
