Four years ago, former software developer Jill Erber decided to quit her job and open a tiny cheese shop in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood. Little did Erber know that Cheesetique would not only help lead the charge of food-oriented businesses along Mount Vernon Avenue but also become so popular that, in such short order, she’d need a larger space. Located several doors down from its original spot, Cheesetique offers a wide selection of artisan cheeses from the United States and abroad, including wheels from France, Spain, Italy, and even Norway. Erber also hawks a decent array of craft beers, meats, wine, and other gourmet items. These days, you don’t even have to rush home to sample the food and drink for sale at Cheesetique; you can now sit at the back bar and pick from a menu that features fondues, quiches, and cheese boards.
