Yeah, sure, the beer menu at Beck is a one-trick pony—all Belgians, all the time, sans a single nod to Prague, Dublin, or other malt meccas. But, man, what a trick it is. With 130 bottles and 13 rotating choices on tap, Beck’s suds roster is as much about education as it is about drinking. Beer “sommelier” Bill Catron will explain why each brewery has its own unique glass (sort of like a coat of arms) and why different beers go into different glassware (heavier brews, for example, go into snifter-shaped glasses to promote aroma). Non–hop heads should order one of the cherry-flavored kriek selections, especially the Kasteel Rouge on draft. It’s like the soda pop of suds—sweet, fun, and approachable. It’s definitely a gateway beer.
