The tag line of local nightlife Web site Brightest Young Things (brightestyoungthings.com) is “Slightly Overexposed.” That little tongue-in-cheek understatement is a clue to the site’s pervasiveness: The site tells District things-about-town what to do, photographs them doing it, posts the shots back on the site, and repeats. BYT formed in 2006 when 27-year-old Svetlana Legetic—who’s pretty photogenic herself—converted her personal MySpace into a blog proper. Now, the site relies on 15 writers and 10 photogs, all volunteers, to document D.C.’s rising DJs, musicians, designers, and—proving that some young things are brighter than others—falling-down drunk, half-naked dancers. The formula has garnered the site a readership to the tune of 30,000 individuals a month and architect-by-day Legetic a pretty busy nightlife. “I don’t sleep,” says Legetic. “That is how it gets done.”
