There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
Fugazi never did anything halfassed. Its lengthy practices were legendary, and each album always sounded better than its predecessor. (Is it heresy to say The Argument was the band’s best?) Fugazi taped hundreds of its shows, and what better way to remember a performance than to hit the playback button? Though the band has been on “hiatus” for several years, it’s been kind enough to start issuing these live tapes in a well-organized series of bootlegs. Dischord is currently selling 30 shows. Start with the first show, recorded on Sept. 3, 1987, when the band was a trio. And then head straight to the band’s August 1993 set at Fort Reno. It’s famous. And not just because of the “Ice Cream Eating Motherfucker Rap.” That show was a burner.
