It’s fitting that Joe’s Movement Emporium has upgraded its digs and moved to a bigger and better location. The neighborhood is experiencing a resurgence, with recently constructed low-income artist housing, a new cafe, and a busy health-food store. Joe’s new building has three studios, a small theater, and offices for affiliated arts organizations, making it a one-stop shop for dance-related activities. Adult classes offered throughout the week include Thai dance, Afro-Modern, and Urban Artistry, plus Brazilian percussion and West African drumming. Weekend evenings bring anything from modern dance performances to salsa-dancing workshops or even puppet shows. Everything’s affordable, and the environment is noisy and welcoming, with couches in the lobby that beg to be sprawled on between classes.
