A recent caller to Phil Wood’s Saturday morning show on SportsTalk 980 asked about the Dave Clark Five’s 1964 appearance at the Washington Coliseum before questioning the host about Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young’s fitness for the 2008 season. Wood was ready to address both queries. As a kid, he saw the Senators at Griffith Stadium and the Beatles at D.C. Stadium and still gets excited when talking about either. His audience skews old, but his show is scary good. The city’s top sports station has never given Wood the exposure he deserves, but it’s a mystery why no classic-rock station has picked up Wood’s double-edged act and given him a daily slot.
