A London-born musician of Indian descent, Karsh Kale blends the influence of his parents’ native land with today’s musical tendencies. Live, he always employs an eclectic musical palette, blending recorded loops from Indian singers with his live band, which includes keys, guitars and more exotic instrumentation. Kale has covered a lot of ground throughout his career, recording one of last year’s most enjoyable world music albums, Breathing Under Water, with sitarist Anoushka Shankar. He has also worked with the Midival Punditz and Persian fusion band Niyaz, and Kale’s original fanbase of Southeastern Asians has broadened due to the ease with which he crosses such cultural and racial barriers. Kale performs with Midival Punditz and Vishal Kanwar at 8:30 p.m. at the Rock and Roll Hotel, 1353 H St. NE. $20. (202) 388-7625.
