A Baltimore band determined to stretch ears with shrieks of far-out dissonance seems unlikely to pick a name that’s the English language’s most fundamental expression of gratitude. But irony isn’t dead yet, and Thank You seems determined to make music much less polite than its moniker. On its latest CD, the two-song Terrible Two, the trio’s frenetic syncopated percussion underpins improvised, musical swells that recall the excruciatingly tense jams of early Can. Tinny, synthesized sounds sparkle above the hollow sounds of low toms through smooth soundscapes and herky-jerky spaz-outs. It’s probably already been said that Thank You’s improvisations will make you want to thank them back. Just because it’s an easy line, though, doesn’t mean it’s not true. THANK YOU PERFORMS AT 9 P.M. AT DC9, 1940 9TH ST. NW. $10. (202) 483-5000.
