Say the words “classic American death metal” and most metalheads will immediately think of the Florida scene of the late ’80s and early ’90s. But Virginia has its own solid candidate in Deceased, the first signee to extreme-metal institution Relapse and best known for its 1997 album, Fearless Undead Machines. (A two-disc commemorative reissue came out this year.) Deceased’s forthcoming album, Surreal Overdose, has been delayed, but judging from the band’s track record it would be prudent to expect another album full of consistently brutal-yet-catchy material, and hopefully tonight’s show will include a few teasers from it.
