Southern Tier Oak-Aged Unearthly
Where Spotted: Galaxy Hut, 2711 Wilson Blvd., Arlington
Price: $7/pint
Drinkheart: A double IPA with 11 percent abv, the regular Unearthly is a beast of extraterrestrial hoppiness, but an oak cask is like a beer’s finishing school. The aged Unearthly emerges just as bold but socialized, like Brendan Fraser in Encino Man. But washing over the hop flavors is a refined, honeyish warmth, like, um, Brendan Fraser in With Honors.
The yummy returns: At Galaxy Hut, you can pair your beer with a coin-operated amusement. I sat at Ms. PacMan, a saccharine game with notes of Pixy Stix and addiction. Pairing: the raspberry-flavored Floris Framboise. Unearthly is more of a pinball beer—there’s a million things happening at once, from floral blueberry hops to a brandy burn, but after each sip (or extra ball), you’ll come back for more.
