Act of God promises more than it delivers. A look at people who have either been struck by lightning or are friends or relatives of someone killed by it, the film’s big draw is its footage of violent storms. And, in truth, this footage is awesome in the truest sense of the word. A couple of stories from victims who came back from the proverbial white light—one of whom was clinically dead for 28 minutes and completely changed his life after he recovered—are intriguing. But otherwise the doc hops around the world with poorly introduced subjects whose anecdotes may have you zoning out between crashes of thunder.
