Dark matters: Brown ale, how I’ve neglected you. You’re a wallflower at the dance, shifting around by the punch bowl while the boys cavort with their wild IPAs and Trappist beers. But you’re, well, reliable. Ellie, you were the sweetest of the bunch, with your chocolate bouquet and caramel flavor. I’ve since left for more complex beers, but I’ll never forget the good times.
Sample Pleasures: There are no doubt brown ales that are smoked or hopped-up or infused with omega-3-rich açaí-goji hybrid bark, but as a whole they are simple brews. As such, they are ideal for introducing your friends that are buy-curious but in a rut, drinking Yuengling or Newcastle or apple juice.
